History Sameel

Somaliland’s history is marked by a rich and ancient past. The region was home to one of the earliest civilizations in the Horn of Africa, engaging in a thriving trade with great empires like ancient Egypt. It later came under British influence, becoming a protectorate in 1884. After briefly gaining independence as the State of Somaliland in 1960, it united with Italian Somaliland to form the Somali Republic. This union lasted for over three decades until 1991, when the former British Somaliland declared its independence again. Somaliland has maintained its own government and stability since then, but its independence has not yet been formally recognized by the international community.
